The Moment She Knew

The moment she knew
The streets were brighter
Books were sold out for a pence,
And words discounted
Holding for cheap escapes.

The moment she knew
I was already looking for
Strings of melted ice.
But tepid waters, washed
My ankles, driving me.

Solving the picture
Of an eternal fall,
Living by the winter,
And avoiding the thaw.

The moment she knew
We ended the trident
And settled for Nero.
Awaiting flames to burn
The thin layer of ice.
[Under where we slept]
